In addition to carving hundreds of full size working decoys, Maynard Caine also spent much of his time carving song birds such as this Blue Jay. The detail is incredible and my photos do not do justice.

Shown here is a solid wood handcarved and painted Blue Jay.

This fellow has glass eyes, and a character that can only be appreciated when holding it in your hand. The scale is 100% life size and the colors are true to life. Extra carving detail shows in the raised primaries, tail feathers, bill and face areas, and the legs and feet were provided by a taxidermist.

Measures 7" long, tip to tip and the carving stands 5-1/2" tall as shown in the top photo. Near mint condition, with a couple of very tiny flecs.
