I found this carving at a local yard sale. The carver is unknown, however, I believe this was made in Hawaii. Originally done in a natural dark finish of the Hawaiian Koa hardwood and is very heavy for its size.

I sent this solid body carving to Lisa Byrd and asked her to paint it an appropriate species for the shape and profile. She couldn't have picked a better model and done a nicer job. The colors fit the Black Skimmer to a 'T'.

Measures 9" from tip of beak to tip of tail feathers and stands 5" tall and the body is approx 2-3/8" at its widest point. Very nice form. Excellent condition. Signed on the bottom Black Skimmer - 2006 - Lisa Byrd. Thanks Lisa!
